It's been a while since I've used a blogging platform that is an actual... blog. I've missed it. It's where the internet started, for me, and with the rise of ten billion new social media platforms I feel seriously out of touch with the medium.
Anyway, hello, I am a freelancing illustrator and concept artist. I've done work for Strange Horizons, Lightspeed Magazine; I've been part of features on Muddy Colors and CreativeBloq. I'm still green and I am still learning, so I hope I can share some of that journey with you here :)
Currently, I am taking part in an environment design mentorship course hosted over on Crimson Daggers.
Our first assignment required the creation of numerous Notan sketches from imagination. These are meant to be extremely quick and abstract, representing only the most basic shapes and rhythms of a composition.
It's already pretty similar to my normal process, so I had a lot of fun!
The next phase was taking some of these notans, and placing them within a simple value scale to create a readable piece quickly.
You can tell I have ran out of steam by the last one, haha. Some of my crit feedback was making more "connections" between planes, looking into pushing elements farther back so they lose that "cutout" feeling. I definitely see it and will definitely put more effort into populating my compositions with depth.
That's all for now, thanks for looking!
